They’re a great time to catch up on reading. If you remember to charge your flashlight and know where your candles and lighters are or have a spiffy new generator.

I started reading Cerce by Madeline Miller. It’s been on my TBR for years but with one thing or another (like obsessively rereading the Sookie Stackhouse and Mercedes Thompson series) it got bumped down the list. For whatever reason, urban fantasy novels are my true comfort reads!

As part of my commitment to regularly improving my technical skills to better serve my technical writing clients, I’m learning about cloud computing through IBM’s Coursera online course. It’s presented in satisfying bites that I can fit it in during those awkward, 20 minute periods when I’m waiting to pick up my kids.

I have to be careful though; I love New Year’s resolutions, and I’m always tempted to overfill my plate with new things to learn and see and do. Sticking to it for the long-haul can really be a challenge!
