Happy New Discovery

This week I re-read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. This is a comfort series that I have returned to several times over the years. This time, I made a point of googling the novels Sookie reads and checking them out. I’m so glad I did, because for some reason the rock I’ve apparently been living under hasn’t included the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow. I’m on the third book, Dead in the Water, and deeply immersed in the taut writing, clever mystery and exotic (to me!) setting. Having just completed my MA in Writing, New Media, and Canada, the North and the Globe, I am fascinated by the fictional representation of the arctic and the fictional slice of life perspective. These are so enjoyable on many levels. I’m looking forward to following Kate and Mutt, (and ok, I don’t mind when Jack makes an appearance either – but so far he does seem like a bit of a self-serving rascal) on future adventures in the north. Highly recommend!
